Gembu, Taraba State – The Wilfred Healthcare Foundation (WHF) has taken its fight against Tuberculosis (TB) to Danbaba Comprehensive Primary School, Gembu, with an intensive awareness campaign and sputum sample collection exercise aimed at early detection and prevention of the disease among pupils and the wider community.

The outreach programme featured health education sessions where WHF officials educated students, teachers, and parents on the causes, symptoms, and transmission of TB. Emphasis was placed on the importance of seeking early medical attention for persistent cough, fever, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss—key warning signs of the infectious disease.

A major component of the exercise was the collection of sputum samples from individuals presenting with symptoms, which were promptly dispatched for laboratory testing. This initiative aligns with global and national efforts to curb the spread of TB, particularly in rural and underserved areas where awareness and access to healthcare remain limited.

The school administration lauded WHF for the initiative, noting that bringing such services directly to the school environment removes barriers to testing and encourages early diagnosis. Parents and guardians who attended the programme also expressed appreciation for the free screening services provided.

WHF representatives reaffirmed the foundation’s commitment to improving community health through awareness, screening, and partnerships with local institutions. They encouraged schools to remain open to similar health interventions and urged the public to support the fight against TB by reducing stigma and promoting testing.

The programme concluded with a distribution of informational materials and a pledge from the school to continue sensitizing pupils on hygiene and healthy living practices.
