Sardauna Local Government Area, Taraba State – Purity Academy recently played host to a health talk and sensitization programme focused on Tuberculosis (TB) awareness and prevention, aimed at educating students and staff on the dangers of the disease and the importance of early detection.
The programme, which brought together health educators and community health workers, featured interactive sessions covering the causes, symptoms, transmission, and treatment of TB. Participants were also educated on the need to reduce stigma associated with the disease and to seek prompt medical attention when symptoms such as persistent cough, fever, and weight loss appear.
A key highlight of the sensitization was the emphasis on preventive measures, including proper ventilation, cough etiquette, and the availability of free testing and treatment at government health facilities across Taraba State.
The school management commended the health team for the initiative, describing it as timely and necessary. They noted that such programmes help bridge the information gap in rural communities and empower young people to become health advocates in their families and neighbourhoods.
Students actively participated in the question-and-answer session, with many expressing gratitude for the knowledge gained. The programme concluded with a call to action for the entire school community to spread awareness and support the fight against TB in the state.
