Nguroje, Sardauna Local Government Area, Taraba State – Residents of Nguroje town and surrounding communities recently benefited from a free medical outreach programme aimed at improving healthcare access in the Mambilla Plateau region. The initiative brought much-needed medical services to the town, which serves as a key economic hub on the plateau.
The medical outreach, which covered various health services, is part of ongoing efforts by health organizations and development partners to address healthcare gaps in underserved communities across Taraba State. Nguroje has historically been a beneficiary of such interventions, with previous programmes including free medical services sponsored by state officials and humanitarian organizations.
Healthcare delivery in the Sardauna area has received significant attention in recent years. In one notable past outreach, the Nigerian Air Force conducted a medical mission at the Nguroje Model Comprehensive Health Centre, attending to 1,375 patients while carrying out general and eye surgeries. More recently, the North East Development Commission (NEDC), in collaboration with the Kolmarg Eyesight Foundation, provided comprehensive eye care services to over 1,000 residents across Sardauna LGA, addressing preventable blindness and vision impairment.
Beyond medical outreach, Nguroje has also benefited from infrastructural support for healthcare delivery. The Border Communities Development Agency (BCDA) recently donated hospital equipment to support primary healthcare in border communities, including Nguroje, noting that Sardauna LGA’s proximity to the Republic of Cameroon makes such interventions vital.
Community leaders and beneficiaries have expressed appreciation for the free medical services, with many calling for sustained efforts to improve healthcare access in the region. Officials involved in the programmes have reaffirmed their commitment to reducing healthcare disparities in rural communities across the North East.
